Also new:

Import classes (incl. auto compile)

The function in Caché Monitor is called “Create mapped table”.

Create a new Namespace with a databaseTo try this feature it is recommended to create a new empty Namespace (and database for this namespace), e.g. called “CM_FEDERATED” as the federated namespace. All tables you want to JOIN in a query must be mapped in this namespace. Mapped means that only the meta data of the tables\classes are copied into the federated namespace, the data remains in their original namespace.

Select the tablesTo do this, open up your “source” namespaces one by one and select the individual tables in Table Browser (select “tables” in server navigator to open), right click on the selection and choose “Create mapped table”. You get asked about the destination namespace, choose the federated namespace and all done!

You can now connect to the federated namespace e.g. via Query Analyzer and query your tables.

Warning! Please be careful if you execute a “DROP TABLE” or just delete operations on a “mapped table”, the original data will be deleted!!

Hint: To remove a table (class) from the federated Namepace, just delete the class! Do not execute a drop table!

Read more about Extended Global Reference an how it works: http://docs.intersystems.com/cache52/csp/docbook/DocBook.UI.Page.cls?KEY=GGBL_structure#GGBL_str_extrefs

There are some restrictions in this version:

DefaultStorage is required for mapped tables

The table name has to be unique in the federated namespace

Max Rows and Max Chars can be configured. Max Rows limit the rows fetched from server.
Max Chars limit the size of charfields fetched from server.
These settings become saved and will be restored after Caché Monitor restart. To remove the limit just clear the field.

Please note: The option Max Rows works only if the table is NOT editable. This is the default, so after selecting a table the read only mode is set. To edit data you have to press the left button, this switch in “edit mode”

Double click on a table in tree opens a new Table Editor for the selected table. So now you can simultaneously open many tables.

Caché Monitor can execute parameterized SQL queries. This will help writing complex scripts with variables, the variables let Caché Monitor prompt you for the values when the SQL is executed. This is handy if you perform the same statements again and again and just wanting to pass new data in.

For example:

SELECT * FROM CINEMA.Film
WHERE CINEMA.Film.Category=$$MyVAR_001$$

When executing the above query, Caché Monitor will prompt the user for input the variable MyVAR_001. The SQL Editor replace the value of $$MyVAR_001$$ with the value entered by the user. The entered value will be substituted for each occurrence in the SQL Script.

The first step is to activate this feature! By default the variable substitution for sql script is disabled. It has to be enabled by pressing the toolbar, please see this screenshot:

Before executing the entire SQL Script the user have to enter all variables in the script:

On the message panel you find the sql statements send to the database.

Syntax of variables and using default values

The variable substitution in SQL scripts supports also setting a default value.

Variable Syntax ist

$$ VarName [ || VarValue]$$

VarName = Required. The variable name appears in the substitution dialog. The entered value will be applied to all variables of that name.

VarValue = Optional. The default value that appears in the substitution dialog.

The variable format supports setting a default value as in the following examples:

SELECT *
FROM CINEMA.Film
WHERE CINEMA.Film.Category = $$MyVAR_002||4$$

SELECT *
FROM CINEMA.FilmCategory
WHERE CINEMA.FilmCategory.CategoryName = $$MyVAR_003||'Action'$$

The variable substitution handles also complex default values like e.g. Sub selects.
